Architetto e designer a 360 gradi, nasce ad Aquisgrana, la più olandese delle città tedesche, il 27 marzo 1886. È uno dei Maestri del Movimento Moderno, pioniere di un’architettura d’avanguardia che considera la forma come il risultato finale di un processo costruttivo. Less is more è il motto con cui è passato alla storia, facendo della purezza della forma, dell’eleganza delle proporzioni e del gusto per il dettaglio la sua cifra. Dai mobili su disegno, come la poltrona Barcelona e la sedia Brno, ancora oggi prodotti e divenuti simbolo di un arredamento sobrio e sofisticato, ai grattacieli di vetro, l’opera di Ludwig Mies van der Rohe attraversa tutte le scale del progetto con una coerenza rara, imponendosi come una delle espressioni più alte dell’architettura del Novecento.
